Hallux valgus · bunion correction

That bump isn't going away on its own. We can fix it.

A bunion forms when the big-toe joint slowly drifts out of alignment, creating the bony bump that makes every shoe feel like the wrong shoe. It's progressive, but it's also very treatable, from simple relief to permanent correction through incisions just millimeters wide.

Sound familiar?

Signs it's time to have it looked at.

i.A visible bump at the base of your big toe that's grown over time
ii.Shoes that used to fit now press, rub, or pinch at the joint
iii.Your big toe drifting toward, or under, its neighbors
iv.Redness, swelling, or soreness over the joint after a day on your feet
v.Pain that's starting to change how, or how much, you walk

How we treat it

Conservative first. Surgical when it counts.

Not every bunion needs surgery. Your visit starts with an exam and an in-office digital X-ray, then an honest conversation about which path fits your foot, your pain level, and your life.

Step one

Relief without surgery

For many patients, the right combination of conservative care takes the pain out of daily life and slows progression.

  • 3D-printed custom orthotics to rebalance pressure
  • Targeted anti-inflammatory injections
  • Padding, footwear guidance, and activity adjustments
When it's time

Minimally invasive correction

When the joint itself needs realigning, Dr. Farooqi corrects the deformity through keyhole incisions, guided by live imaging.

  • Incisions measured in millimeters, not inches
  • Less visible scarring and less post-operative pain
  • Performed by a Bellevue-trained foot surgeon

What recovery looks like

Designed to get you back, sooner.

Every foot is different, and recovery depends on the procedure your bunion needs. What stays constant: the minimally invasive approach is designed for less pain and a quicker return to normal life than traditional open surgery.

At your consultation, Dr. Farooqi will walk you through exactly what your correction involves, what your recovery timeline looks like, and what to expect week by week. No surprises.

Bunion questions

Asked all the time.

Will my bunion go away with orthotics or splints?

Conservative care can relieve pain and slow progression, but it can't reverse the bony change itself. Only surgical correction realigns the joint. The good news: relief, not surgery, is the right goal for many patients.

Is bunion surgery covered by insurance?

When a bunion is painful and affecting your daily life, correction is generally considered medically necessary rather than cosmetic. We'll verify your specific coverage before anything is scheduled, and self-pay rates are available.

How soon can I walk after minimally invasive correction?

It depends on the procedure your foot needs, so we won't promise a number here. Dr. Farooqi will give you a specific, honest timeline at your consultation, including when you can expect to be back in regular shoes.

Can a bunion come back after surgery?

Recurrence is possible but uncommon when the correction addresses the underlying alignment rather than just shaving the bump. That's exactly what proper surgical correction is designed to do, and it's part of what we'll discuss when planning yours.
